Immigrant Voices Film Series
All immigrants have rights. Every immigrant has a story.
To honor the stories of diverse immigrant communities in the U.S., we present:
Immigrant Voices Film Series; A monthly film series at La Peña Cultural Center starting April 2025.
Each screening will include Q&A with the filmmakers and/or participants in the film, along with members of local community and immigrant rights organizations.
We are selecting documentary and narrative films that provide unique insights into the lives and struggles of immigrants. Through the power of storytelling, viewing in community and discussing the films, we hope to deepen awareness of immigrants' experiences, as well as motivate people to take action to defend immigrant rights and work for a just and humane immigration policy.
Immigrant Voices will be screening the 3rd Tuesday of each month at La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, California.

Prodigal Daughter
Through her vibrant photo-paintings of family, Mabel Valdiviezo’s full-length documentary "Prodigal Daughter” offers a unique perspective on the immigrant experience. It explores the intersections of family reconnection, gendered migration, mental health, and art as a source of empowerment. At its heart, “Prodigal Daughter” challenges the prevailing narrative of 'good immigrant' versus 'bad immigrant,' presenting a deeper, more nuanced story of migration, identity, and belonging.
